In an effort to create smarter, more liveable cities, Wolt, urban delivery leader and a partner of EIT Urban Mobility, launched its Better Cities Fund in Prague.

This sustainability-focused programme, supported by €400,000 in funding, aims to help couriers transition to more sustainable, low-emission vehicles. The initiative has already seen success in the Nordics and is now expanding to other European cities, including Prague, to support the shift towards greener last-mile delivery.

Empowering sustainable logistics

Operated by Wolt in cooperation with TreshPoint, the Better Cities Fund focuses on cities where reducing transport-related emissions is a key challenge. Moreover, with alternative fuel vehicles still accounting for only a small fraction of the total fleet in Prague, the need for sustainable transport solutions remains evident.

“Prague has the opportunity to enhance sustainable urban logistics, especially in last-mile delivery, by adopting greener solutions and advancing low-emission transportation. Better Cities Fund supports this transition by helping couriers overcome the high costs of electric transport and showcasing innovative approaches to reducing the city’s carbon footprint,” said Jakub Moťovský, Head of Courier Strategy & Innovation, Region Central, at Wolt.

Test drive in Prague

As part of the efforts to promote the programme, Wolt held a test drive in Prague that featured a range of low-emission delivery vehicles, allowing couriers, city officials, and members of the public to experience the future of urban logistics first-hand. Battery-powered bicycles and electric vehicles designed for last-mile delivery were among the showcased options. 

Traian Urban, Director at EIT Urban Mobility Innovation Hub East, attended the drive to test the vehicles and discuss the role of zero-emission transport in urban areas. “With increasing pressure on European cities to reduce transport-related emissions, expanding electric delivery fleets is a practical step toward improving air quality. By prioritising sustainable urban transport, Prague—and cities like it—can make tangible progress in reducing pollution and creating healthier environments for residents,” he commented. 

EIT Urban Mobility actively supports initiatives like the Better Cities Fund to advance cleaner transport solutions across Central and Eastern Europe.
